Water Sports (Sail)
Water sports that use sail as propulsion can be enjoyed by absolutely anyone. You need not come from a sailing background as there are plenty of places to learn the basics. You do not even need to own a boat as clubs and centres will provide you with all you need to start with; water, boat, buoyancy aid, and the enthusiasum to start having a go.
Please contact the Activities Sailing Team who will be able to give you advice, information and guidance on how to get your section out on the water.
The Kent Scouts Watersports Sail Team support:
Boats and equipment come in all shapes and sizes and cater for the fact that people do not come in a standard size, so there will be an option to suit you.
Every time you go out on the water you will have a unique experience, as the wind strength, direction and all the other weather factors will constantly be changing and challenging you.
If you live in a landlocked area miles from the sea, that is not a problem either as the majority of lakes, reservoirs, and rivers near you will have activities going on.
Many venues will have competitive racing fleets as well as offering the option just to go and float around, so once you have mastered the basics there will be plenty of new challenges for you to get your teeth into.
Contact the Activities Sailing Team who will be able to guide you to activity venues.
Kent Scouts also promote a range of sail experiences through partner and affiliated organisations that include Bewl Watersports.
Water Sports Adventure Camps - Bewl Reservoir
Bewl Water Sports Committee offer taster sessions, providing the opportunity to try Dinghy Sailing, Windsurfing and Kayaking/Canoeing over a weekend camp. This is in addition to our normal formal training courses following national governing body training schemes.
This is an ideal opportunity for Scouts to try a variety of water sports for the first time and for leaders to offer a water activity weekend camp for their Scouts with little effort on their part. The leaders don't even have to attend (subject to age limitations), althoughthey are very welcome and anyway, why should the youngsters have all the fun!
